6 Bible Verses for Homemakers
It can be very helpful to look at homemaking from a biblical perspective. After all, the scriptures talk a great deal about how to be a good wife and mother. There are clear verses that tell us how to act. Not only are there bible passages helping to guide us to holy lives, but there are also passages that can motivate and inspire us in homemaking.
"The wise woman builds her house, but the foolish pulls it down with her own hands." Proverbs 14:1
Proverbs 14:1 is a stark reality that many woman face. When we are unhappy in our homes and in our lives, in most circumstances, it is because of ourselves that we are unhappy. There are so many ways that you can be tearing down your house, but it all starts with a negative mindset. Be sure to keep a positive mindset and beware that the function and happy atmosphere of the home, begins with, and stems from, you.
"For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope." Rom. 15:4
Romans 15:14 reminds us to look to scripture when we need comfort.
"Finally, all of you, be of one mind, having compassion for one another: love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous.' 1 Peter 3:8
I love thinking especially of homemaking for my children when reading this. Sometimes when we are cleaning the same mess over and over, it can be hard to be tender, it's far easier to be annoyed! But its especially important to have compassion with our children. This verse also reminds us to be courteous, which we can apply to the hosting side of homemaking when welcoming guest into our homes.
"Do not grow weary in doing good." 2 Thes. 3:13
It can feel mundane to do the same chores day after day. There is always cooking, cleaning, dishes, sweeping, laundry and errands to be doing. God reminds us to remain steadfast in doing good deeds. Especially the deeds we do for our family in our homes.
"And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward."Col. 3:23
When you are in charge of running your household it can be easy, or maybe even tempting, to cut corners. Do not do anything with only half effort. If you are doing something, do it well. Think of who it ultimately serves, and maybe this will help motivate you to put forth your best effort always.
“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.” Ecclesiastes 9:10
God never calls us to perfection, but as Christians, we are called to always do our best in order to glorify God.
